Halloween festivities always give everyone a taste of the social activities in store for the holiday season. It’s refreshing to get out dressed up and be social. Then… it’s veterans day and everyone has woke up to being social but, the holidays are around around the corner. Most people want to conserve resources, energy, or both.
We did a little bay area digging and found some low impact, budget light things to do in San Francisco and around the bay area this Veterans weekend.
Free Skating Lessons San Francisco
The public ice skating rink at Union Square offers free skate lessons on Saturday and Sunday. Kaiser Permanente sponsors the lessons as part of their THRIVE campaign, sign up for free tickets! This is a great date night activity, something to do with the kids, or something different with friends.
Book a Group Virtual Reality Experience San Mateo
Sandbox VR in San Mateo offers virtual a reality experience. Users can select from two themes currently, your group (2–6 people) can make a choice between the Curse of Davy Jones and Deadwood Mansion. Unfortunately this is only for those that exceed 48 inches, making this less of a family option. The experience is listed as the flagship San Francisco however it's nestled at Hillsdale mall on the peninsula. Which is a great place to grab a burger at Paul Martin's American Grill or The Habit a killer build your own burger spot!
Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco
The winter makers fair of crafts is happening this weekend at Fort Mason. A perfect opportunity to browse on the indie side of life. Renegade is a hub for the craft-loving makers! One can workshop with like-minded makers, checkout new innovations in the food truck scene, and browse for some cool pieces while enjoying refreshments, yes there are cocktails too! This iconic fair happens twice a year and the winter edition is great place to browse for gifts and stay current with the wild indie heart beat of California.
Whale Watching Season San Francisco Bay Area
During the winter months there are two seasons for whale watching, we are in prime season for humpback whale watching in the bay area. Find tours that are light on the wallet from destinations: San Francisco, Monterey, and Santa Cruz. Enjoy the coast once more before we get into the rainy season!
Local Veterans Day Parades Bay Area
San Jose, San Francisco, and Petaluma will host a Veterans day parade in honor of Veterans Day. What a great time to pause after mid-term elections and enjoy what freedom has to offer! It is one of the last warm weekends of the year, get out and enjoy just one more festival.
Veterans Ceremony and Overnight Experience at theUSS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum Alameda
The Veterans ceremony starts bright and early at 11 am on Saturday and features a wreath toss and a card-making station for civilians to thank Veterans for their service. There is also an overnight experience, guests get to sleep in restored berthing compartments where the real Hornet crew lived! A simulated flight experience and exploration of historical naval aircrafts, a great activity for families.
